Rachel Roy S/S 2011

Tuesday September 14, 2010
Library of the Performing Arts

9 dress forms set along a wall greeted the guests to the Rachel Roy Spring 2011 presentation. On each was an interpretation of a trench coat & proved an ingenious way to highlight an outerwear collection without ever hiding any of the pieces that are normally shown below the outerwear. In this case, it was a wise move, as Ms. Roy’s vision for Spring deserved to be seen in its entirely & not covered up by a utilitarian, all be they in this case worth seeing, items like rain coats. The coats were all Khaki & shades thereof, while the clothing was literally exploding with color – Emerald, Sapphire, Ruby, Hot Pink, Yellow & Amythest all coexisted opposite Black & White. Prints were minimal & either very large
or almost Liberty-of-London-like in scale in the case of one blouse. The silhouettes were at their best when they bordered on the geometric, or as some may say origami. The best of these pieces was a soft bustier that was shown layered over traditional blouses, the best of which was the combination of a Black bustier worn over a minute floral pattern Black ground printed blouse. These geometric inspired pieces proved the perfect segue to the final vignette of heavily jeweled dresses shown as Roy’s version of evening.
