A/W 2011- General Idea

Saturday, February 12th, 2011
The Studio @ Lincoln Center

The inspiration for the latest collection from Bum Suk came from the letter “M” which stands for Military and Mountains. General Idea worked together with Italian brand Nepa to create a comfortable yet functional outerwear line. With an interesting color pallet that ranges from mustard, navy and beige to bright pink camouflages, the pieces were modern, edgy and wearable. The choice of fabrication is critical when working with outerwear and the durable looking cotton, wool and polyesters assure the customer that these products will definitely last more than just one season. And with this in mind it’s fair to say that even though the pieces were refreshingly new and modern, they still looked like they won’t go out of style anytime soon. Utilitarian pockets and closures in vest, blazers and jackets were clean and even made an appearance in a bright red military jacket. Most of the knits had a snowflake motif in bright red, blue and white which made it feel like Swiss Alps meet Christmas. Some knitted wool tights worn under camouflaged shorts can only aim for the more adventurous and extravagant client. It was great to see something different in menswear and for those who are not afraid of color and want to try something new this collection definitely hit the spot.
