ONmyMind: Hyden Yoo

It’s back…

With New York Fashion Week less than a month away it’s time for a TFL favorite & the 5th season of finding out exactly what some of the most sought after designers are thinking.  The first glimpse for the Fall 2012 season is that of the “Fresh Face” & “Rising Star” designer Hyden Yoo.  Mark your calendar for his presentation Wednesday, February 8th @ 3pm.

1.    How many looks should I have for the show?

2.    Wonder if the sale’s team is gonna be pissed if I pull this look from their sample set.

3.    When and where should I runaway to after fashion week?

4.    Doing the laundry so I’ll have something to wear for the show

5.    I need some sleep

6.    What should I design for next season?

7.    Which of my other friends shows should I check out?

8.    I should go to the gym so I can look half-way in decent shape in these pictures

9.    Seriously, there’s so many bloggers.  I wish I was savvy enough to start one

10.  I’m freakin starving.  (this thought is all the time).

About Hyden Yoo:

Hyden Yoo is the creator and face of his namesake label Hyden Yoo. The brand is known for forward fashion design, detailing, exceptional fit, and clean lines, all bundled at accessible price-points.  Established as a complete menswear collection in 2008, Hyden Yoo can now be found at premiere retailers throughout the US, Canada, Japan, and the United Arab Emirates.

Hyden took a sharp look at the menswear market and found a niche in day-to-night dressing for men’s shirting. By shortening the length of an average dress shirt by two inches, men could still tuck in their shirt and wear it to the office and then un-tuck it for an evening look. Simultaneously, while starting to develop this concept, Hyden took internships with global luxury brands to learn as many facets of the business as possible: a public relations internship at KCD; visual merchandising and back stock at Prada; and product development at Ralph Lauren. He also visited local factories in the tri-state area to learn different aspects of production and manufacturing.

In his spare time he took his first shirting collection door-to-door trying to break into department stores and specialty stores, while also selling the collection on weekends at the Young Designers Market in Nolita, New York City.

His second collection took off when hipster NYC retailer OAK sold their complete order in just a few weeks. From there, he expanded his initial offering and the Hyden Yoo men’s collection launched in the fall/winter of 2008.

Hyden’s design philosophy continues to help men transition from day-into-night by utilizing subtle details to create modern silhouettes from classic tailored sportswear pieces. Guided by this philosophy, he continues to style and design pieces that bridge the gap between Wall Street bankers and Brooklyn hipsters. In spring of 2010 Hyden introduced a full women’s collection marrying effortless style with street chic.
