The first model walked down the runway of the Anne Bowen Fall 2012 RTW show adorned in silver beading, setting the tone for this elegant collection of evening wear. Such metallic detailing could be found all throughout the collection; grey twine, silver chain fringe, black diamond crystals and metal sequins are all materials used by Bowen this season. Acting as the base for such detailing was silk charmeuse, tulle, chiffon and organza. Another key element to this collection was silk velvet–beautiful silk velvet, in an olive green color that had an eye-catching luster to it as models glided down the runway. Bowen also made use of lace to create dresses in this same color, as well as mohair fur in the form of shrugs and capes. The juxtaposition of multiple types of fabric created a pleasant contrast of matte versus shine. Classic black and white looks were also offered up, many of them quite graphic with striking usage of the two colors. Hemlines were asymmetrical while silhouettes came in geometric shapes, adding interest to this collection of classic evening wear. “Practicality married with beauty” is one way Bowen describes her Fall 2012 collection, which is exactly what she gave us.
