The Box @ Lincoln Center
Greek born, half Egyptian, New York resident by way of Montreal, Fotini (only one name… like Madonna…) debuted her collection in Spring 2012 at the Gramercy Park Hotel. This season, in her sophomore effort, she moved uptown to stage her presentation in The Box in Lincoln Center. Her collection of dressy suits & light eveningwear had an Old Hollywood sort of vibe about it, which some may refer to as vintage, others as period, & still others as wholly modern. To call this collection cohesive would be stretching the truth, but then again, the genre tends to not lend itself readily to the concept of “tight editing”. Fotini certainly knows how to fit a garment & it showed as every piece looked to be custom made for each model. The Fotini collection is not for everyone… subtlety is far from her forte; however, there are enough relevant ideas in this collection to call it a success & certainly warrant another look next season.
