Nicole Miller A/W 2012

Friday, February 10th, 2012
The Studio @ Lincoln Center

The first model appeared wearing a military-inspired jacket in a colorful, digital print with a ruffled blouse peeking out from underneath. The next one came out in a brown suede vest and a wide-brimmed, floppy hat.  It didn’t take long to realize that Nicole Miller was taking us back in time, arguably to the seventies. Bell bottoms, vests lined with alpaca and multiple sightings of fringe added to this vibe. In her show notes, Miller makes the statement, “The past plays out in the present,” and it wasn’t too difficult to see what she meant by this.

On the note of fabrication, the designer played with digital prints on new surfaces, such as tweed, velvet and neoprene. These prints came in a myriad of colors; purple and orange for a plaid dress, bright yellow for an oversized flower print, or a mixture of pinks, blues, greens and other hues for inspired-by-nature prints. Miller offered up plenty of looks to choose from. The sexy, confident woman likely to wear her designs could choose between sheath dresses, furry vests and jackets, suede bottoms, handkerchief blouses or a jumpsuit. Not to mention the plethora of signature Nicole Miller accessories, including handbags, sunglasses and jewelry. All in all, a well-done collection–even more admirable through the eyes of the person who prefers dated fashions.
