In 1916, Keds created the first sneaker, or in their own words, “the first ‘feel-like-everyday’s-a-Saturday’ shoe”. Judging from a cursory look at passers by on any given Saturday, a great number of the American public agrees. Get ready, as you’re going to have to raise your head soon, because they’ve just launched a clothing collection. So… what took them so long to create a collection of clothing that embodies the same easy going, leisure as a lifestyle, vibe that is synonymous with their iconic footwear? That answer remains a secret locked up somewhere in the corporate offices at Keds HQ, but thankfully we are lucky enough to finally have their clothing collection, which they wittily label as “Keds: Head to Toe for She & He”. This collection is in a word: Addictive
Designed & merchandised by the white-hot design duo, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim (Opening Ceremony & Kenzo Paris), who have taken classic American staples like Chinos, 5-Pocket Jeans, Oxfords, Polos, Rugby’s & Camp Shirts & given them a tweak here & there in silhouette or proportion, added a dash of color where needed, thrown in a print or two, & washed it all down to a supple softness that embodies the spirit of American sportswear. The result: One of the most wearable, subtly novel, comfy collections to emerge on the fashion scene in the memorable past.
Available exclusively at Opening Ceremony stores worldwide (New York, Los Angeles & Tokyo) or on the Keds website, this collection is going to quickly earn its rightful place in your closet & will without a doubt be your go to pieces for Saturdays this Spring. Keds just made the week seem agonizingly a little longer…
