Held in the Terrace Room of the legendary Plaza Hotel, a venue of choice for Douglas Hannant, the cocktail soiree / fashion show that he hosted with the Private Reserve U.S. Bank was an exercise in opulence & class – again, constant themes for this New York designer to the social set.
The room was awash with a colorful array of fall leaves which were strewn across the runway & amongst the trees, which were strategically placed between islands that served as posing points for the models. Although there wasn’t a large array of colors, with the most favored combination of the season being Black & White, the décor proved a perfect contrast. When a series of color-blocked dresses appeared, it was clear that Hannant’s affinity for color wasn’t solely in staging.
The fitted Hounds-tooth dresses caught everyone’s eye & showcased the designer’s strong suit of creating elegant & sophisticated suiting unlike any other. When the collection turned towards the Gothic inspired dresses towards the end, it was clear that Hannant has it in him to be fanciful & fun as well. If forced to categorize Douglas Hannant’s work in a few words, it could be confidently stated that he is a “master dress maker”. In the last several gowns, Hannant upped the ante to show that his talent is much stronger than solely mechanical, as the lace covered Green ensemble & the open back Black gown were not only technically perfect, they made his women look & feel beautiful. In fact, any woman would look great in his clothes! Mission accomplished…
