Gramercy Park Hotel – On the Terrace
New York, NY
The Rooftop Terrace was the perfect venue for Misha Nonoo, who has recently won the FGI Rising Star Award, to present Resort/Pre Spring 2013 her fourth collection to date. The atmosphere on the Terrace was just as glamorous and sophisticated as her inspiration, the Countess Edwina Mountbatten.
Many of her classic and stylish looks from Fall A/W 2012 were carried over here, again showing that she is a master tailor, and knows how to add just the right details and touches. Unfortunately, she did stray away at times from her gorgeously tailored and ultra sophisticated feminine pieces, with some extremely girly and young, and casual items, that looked out of place here and perhaps had a better home on the high street. Additionally, several pieces looked as if they belonged in another designer’s collection and would have been better left out of this one.
There were some wonderful knits, cool and relaxing lounge sets, and a beautifully tailored tuxedo smoking suit revived from her previous collection, which was in a gorgeous champagne/cream color and one of the best items from her collection in my opinion.
Overall, the collection did not convey a singular and strong aesthetic. I would have rather her stay true to the grown up, great tailored pieces, showing her canny knack of cut and fit than see so many seemingly divergent directions at once.
I look forward to seeing what further fine-tuning does to her future collections.
