Elena V Ready to Wear S/S 2013

Wednesday, September 12th, 2012
The Ukrainian Museum

New comer to the New York Fashion Week circuit, Elena Vasilevsky showed the more casual range of her collection at The Ukrainian Museum in a more subdued, less showy atmosphere that was far preferable to the Ballroom setting of her “Elena V Capsule” collection earlier in the week. The mood was a perfect complement to this portion of her collection, which is assertively more casual, far sweeter in feeling infinitely more appealing to boot.  This collection had the feeling of an indie label that has real “insider” status & if you don’t know about it, you aren’t cool enough to… yet.

Easy to wear bubble skirts cinched at the hem by wide bands with side buttons & Peter Pan collared voile blouses proved the most memorable pieces, but a few others like the Slate Blue short shirt dress that was trimmed in Royal Blue piping certainly left their impressions strongly in this observer’s mind.

Ms. Vasilevsky made this collection feel effortless & easy, which is the hallmark of a designer who has found her mark.  I hope to see more of these sort of easy, breezy, too cool for words pieces in the future, as these are pieces that resonate with the consumer & will ultimately lead to retail success for this newly founded label.  Ease is a difficult trait to embody & she seems to have done it here with… well… ease.
