It is incredible and a huge relief, a breath of fresh air, to see the creativity that these young people the designers of tomorrow, have within them. This was the second student design show I saw during NYFW, and again it left a strong impression.
Twelve exceptionally different designers presented their unique aesthetic to an audience of critics, buyers, photographers, teachers, family and friends. One would think that the diversity of so many visions in a single show would create a state of confusion, but the presentation was orchestrated in such a fluid manner that each designer’s collection led nicely into the next.
There were graphic color block separates in orange and charcoal grey, extremely avant-garde pieces that looked like works of art, sensually exotic items in tropical colors, casual sportswear in a romantic soft pink and grey palette, over the top ensembles in gold shimmer with black lace, and amazing theatrical looks made of black latex, feathers, and caged nettings.
With so many facets of design in the Fashion world, not every one of these graduating students will be a contemporary sportswear or casual separates designer for the masses. Here’s wishing they all find a perfect fitting home in their respective part of the Fashion Industry machine.
