Bold print and heavy color blocking filled the HAUS ALKIRE Soho gallery space during their A/W 2013 presentation. This season HAUS ALKIRE teamed up with Swarovski Elements in creating one of a kind, hand crafted piecework for many garments. The collection was inspired by the after math of Hurricane Sandy, as well as several candlelight images taken during the storm. Jason Alkire, print designer for HAUS ALKIRE, created several prints that correlated with this natural disaster. The star print of the show was what the designers, Jason and Julie, call the “Dream Tree” print. Various smoldering tones of orange, blue, and pink, create a morphing and mind bending print. Many garments created with the “Dream Tree” print were adorned with chunky, bold Swarovski crystals as well, giving a 3D quality and making them truly glow.
Designer Julie focused on playing with shape and proportion for this season: whatʼs wrong is now right. A stunning ensemble that embodies this concept was one of the first looks viewers saw, consisting of a super wide leg wool trouser, loose fitted sheep fur sweatshirt, and boxy wool jacket adorned with a rabbit fur neckline. Oversized in shape were many of the pieces throughout the presentation, yet never overwhelming the models. Throughout the collection, the bold prints are come to life even more with the use of exotic textiles including, eel, rabbit, and sheep. These exquisite fabrications accentuate their story and portray the strong message to onlookers by adding depth and texture. Not only did these exotic textures help, but the use of the prints on many different fabrics allowed viewers to enjoy the story within the print in a variety of ways, since every textile reads differently. Overall consisting of a bold collection focusing on color, print, and silhouette while all the more telling a story many people can relate to.Greatly looking forward to see what this design house brings in the future.
