The Fashion Gallery’s Designer’s Review: NYFW Fall 2013

The Fashion Gallery’s Designer’s Review
Helen Mills Event Space

In a streamlined and modern space, ideal for an after dinner cocktail or a wonderful weekend brunch, The Designer’s Review presented six emerging designers and their Fall/Winter 2013 Collections. The up-and-coming designers presented were Nayra Guerrero, Dareyna Swann, Kelly Dempsey, Elia de Leon, Malcolm Williams and Yvette Elfawal, with an aesthetic as follows:

Nayra Guerrero – casual and comfortable sportswear pieces with a touch of drama for visual appeal

Dareyna Swann – cool urban street vibe in easy fabrics nicely finished off with couture elements

Kelly Dempsey – raw and unfinished costume-like pieces, perhaps one day Lady Gaga worthy

Elia de Leon – very sexy and feminine with a strong Latin vibe, flounces, ruffles and a splash of lace

Malcolm Williams – beautifully cut and draped gowns in rich fabrics with an old Hollywood glamour

Yvette Elfawal – soft and romantic eveningwear, but rope and sheer bodices drew away from their beauty

Each designer is relatively new to the Fashion world, and self promotes their collection through various platforms of communication – a company website, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr accounts etc. Ms DeLeon and Mr Williams were my favorites in regard to the professional presentation and execution of their pieces. They were bringing “SexyBack” in a clear and focused manner, that would easily have retail success.

The Theater, Lincoln Center

Monique Lhuillier is a genius when it comes to a dramatic gown. Although I have mentioned a few times before, that this or that person is the red carpet go to designer, and I remain true to my word, the reigning Queen however, hands down, is Ms Lhuillier. She is a truly gifted and talented designer with an amazing vision.

Alejandro Ingelmo NYFW F/W 2013

Saturday, February 9, 2013
The Highline Room at The Standard Hotel

Alejandro Ingelmo kept it cool with his Fall 2013 accessory collection inspired by light. In a dark, long room, shoes and bags were displayed on clear platforms with tube lighting underneath, or on metallic plating on the floor. A simple neon-light display at the end of the room created an optical illusion seeming to allow the shoes to speak for themselves.

The animated and decadent era of Berlin in the 20’s or the golden 20’s triggered different emotions amongst people from delight to fear.  Perhaps it’s Germany’s complex history, but whatever the case may be, Berlin is historically known as a party city, a city of quirks and history.

Christian Siriano NYFW F/W 2013

Saturday, February 9, 2013
Eyebeam Studio

Christian Siriano has always been a bit of an oddity in the business.  Every mention of his name amongst true insiders always seemed to be footnoted with a knowing tone of questioning why he is the phenomenon he is.
