Fashion icon, Iris Apfel has paired up with zany furrier, & TheFashionList fave, Adrienne Landau on a colorful edit of Landau’s collection. The collaborative edit will be featured in Apfel’s flash department that is popping up at Bergdorf Goodman through March 26th, 2018.
Sadly, the department is only a pop-up as I’m sure we’re not alone in wishing retail would permanently embrace more of Apfel’s signature fearless approach to self merchandising. The 96 year old fashion cover girl, described by many as a “Rare Bird”, is legendary for her accessories, colorful flamboyance, & belief that fashion should never limit one’s ability to be themselves.
Iris started her career working for Women’s Wear Daily, interior designer Elinor Johnson, and then for illustrator Robert Goodman. She went on to work on several design restoration projects at the White House for 9 presidents, including Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, and Clinton. Iris and her late husband, Carl Apfel, traveled the world collecting artisanal clothes from all over, mixing them with her taste for western, high-end fashions. Her collections have been exhibited in the Peabody Essex Museum, the Museum at FIT, and at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Today, always sporting her signature thick-framed spectacles, interesting pattern combinations, along with a perfectly-combed white coiffure, Iris Apfel is considered a living fashion icon.
Landau couldn’t be more thrilled to work with Iris on this collaborative edit. “I love Iris,” exclaims Landau with admiration for the icon. “I’ve always looked up to [her] for her unapologetic approach to fashion & for never limiting herself to trends. Iris and I both love color and texture. Having Iris at my showroom giving my team and I direct design input is a moment I’ll cherish forever!”
Apfel, has plenty to celebrate, including her the recent release of yet another title in print, “Iris Apfel: Accidental Icon – Musings of a Geriatric Starlet” & being immortalized as a Barbie Doll.
Her boutique at Bergdorf Goodman will be open through March 26th, 2018 & can be shopped on-line at this link: Iris Apfel for Bergdorf Goodman
