In the dark & vibey setting at the Crosby Hotel, designer Morgan Hoffman presented her second collection under her “Girlboy” label, this time adding “Weekend”, a contemporary collection designed to sit along side the Ready to Wear collection.
As the evening unfolded, Hoffman mingled with the guests, taking an interview here & there, seemingly enjoying the evening as much as her guests did. It was a perfect setting for this collection for certain. The debut of a collection is often times not best suited for the rigors of the runway (however… don’t take this as a blanket endorsement by TheFashionList of the current trend to shirk the runway in favor of presentation format showings, as we’ve yet to experience a format that comes close to replacing the runway).
Models were as equal a part of the action as the guests themselves. The lines of delineation between the fashion & those there to experience it, were at times hard to discern. That was, we are certain, the intention. Mission accomplished. It seemed the theme of the evening, which Hoffman was sharing in every interview, was “become your own muse” & the crowd was certainly tuned into this channel of thought.
Fall 2018 was inspired by the style icons of the 1970′s… a list that includes “Bowie, Jagger, Jackie, Keaton, & Hall”. Some gender bending, other iconically feminine, with the result being a decade that left fashion, & society as a whole for that matter, forever questioning what traditional gender roles were in fashion. Thus, a perfect point of introduction for a label called “Girlboy”.
The details of the garments clearly demonstrated that Hoffman has command of her design arsenal. The cut of the clothes, the drape & proportion, combined with subtle details galore, made it clear that not only is this a collection we’ll be seeing in the seasons ahead, it’s a collection we’ll want to make a regular part of our seasonal coverage. There’s a lot here to be celebrated!
