The Duck Boot is arguably one of the most recognizably iconic hallmarks of American footwear fashion & Sporto, creator of the Original Duck Boot™, has teamed up with Vibram, the worldwide leader in high performance soles for outdoor, to mark the 40th anniversary of the iconic design in truly iconic style. This new & improved design will be ready for retail for Fall 2016, just in time to make full use of Vibram’s IceTrek outsole technology, a first for this category of shoe.

As with any partnership or collaboration, there was some compromise to be had. “The first challenge was actually designing a duck boot, a rare style in Vibram’s wheelhouse. I looked at many different iterations in the market, past & present, & noticed they were essentially the same design repeated. I wanted to change that, & maintain Sporto’s traditional DNA but also infuse modern technological design influences, ” stated Robert Lee, Designer of Vibram. At the recent Fall 2016 press preview, the design elements of the new design DNA were actually inspired by some of the futuristic lines of concepts for automobiles. The results, are somehow completely modern, yet clearly rooted in the tradition of the original, a true testament to the skill of set of the designers themselves.
The collection consists of five designs for women & will also re-introduce men’s to the Sporto brand with a capsule collection of four styles. Each product will be constructed with handcrafted all-weather treated leather uppers & will feature traditionally vulcanized rubber shells & outsoles built for superior traction on wet, dry & icy surfaces. The herringbone design on the sole, also seen in the majority of professional athletic shoes, is accented with bold color to emphasize its technical properties & provides extra grip. Styles will also feature Thermolite & wool insulation in the footbed with novel duck head inspired detailing along the side.
Sporto is currently available to shop at top-tier global retailer partners, including national department stores, specialty footwear retailers, national footwear retailers, online retailers & iconic independent retailers. Prices will range from $110 – $140.
