For her Fall 2017 Haute Couture collection, eveningwear impressario Galia Lahav found had her curiosity piqued in the age old tradition of collecting curious items found throughout ones life & assembling them into a sort of scrapbook which, in a way, told the story of one’s life experience. In day of old, this practice was a pastime of sorts, where these collections were compiled into one’s “Cabinet de Curiosités”, as the French called them, to be shared amongst friends, with each individual collection providing a facet of the beautiful diamond of life.
But alas, along came science, which served to categorize every item on the planet into an organized system that is neatly housed behind glass boxes in museums. Gone is the individual experiential element that was represented by each personal collection that lent value to the individual path of each person’s life experience. Instead, we were all left with a scholarly, democratic approach in the name of education.
Galia Lahav sought to use her Fall 2017 Haute Couture collection to hark back to a time of personal joyous discovery that once was. Did she succeed? In our opinion, the answer is a resounding “YES!”
Her creations took us to the depths of the oceans where coral reefs abound in glorious tones of Coral, Red, Deep Sea Blues, & Almost Black Navy. We visited the gardens of the ancient Orient which inspired Kimonos emblazoned with stunning tonal Indigo floral jacquards trimmed in plush fur. Randomly sized pallets were strewn about in undulating patterns on cheeky, flirty tunic dresses with deep plunging necklines. Evening coats were used as overlays on tulle skirts to create an evening gown/coat combination that took these two staples of the Haute Couture collection to new levels of freshness. This collection truly was precisely what the Haute Couture ought to be… thought provoking, remarkably crafted, strikingly beautiful, & perhaps most importantly… covetable.
True to her inspiration, Galia Lahav not only created a beautiful collection of piece inspired by life experience, but kept us curious for more!
