Every time we attend a presentation at Romona Keveza‘s Rockefeller Center Atelier, we are awestruck. Awestruck at the fit, the detail, the modernity she brings to this, one of the most tradition laden genres of fashion. Awestruck at the detail of her construction, the subtlety of coloration, the quality of the lace, the hand feel of her fabrics. Simply speechless.
Today was no different. She did it again! showing 13 gowns & dresses for Fall 2017, each piece looked as fit on the model as if she literally molded the cuts to the model in the flesh. We’ve never seen such impeccable fit on any other runway. Period.
Ms. Keveza stated in her design statement that she is careful to include looks for every bride, whether she be an Aristocrat, a Modernist, or a Fashionista. True, any bride who can afford the price tag will find an option that is irresistible, but in our humble opinion, Ms. Keveza is best when working with the Modernist. However, she does so with a deftness of design touch that simultaneously evokes notes of tradition & ceremony. Her modernity is that born in the latter portions of the mid-century. Asymmetrical hemlines & necklines were are the foundation details to support sheer organza or Gazar overlays that playfully drape about to guide the eye about the dress while simultaneously softening the overall effect. Romona Keveza has depth… depth of quality, depth of details, & depth of context. In a word, her designs are “inspired” & we always leave feeling the same.
Sadly, Ms. Keveza wasn’t present to give us her own personal “tour” of the collection as normal at her presentations. Perhaps she did that on purpose this season… to get us to come back next season. If this is the case, her efforts were for naught, as there’s little doubt we ever leave one of her invitations unanswered, as this collection is the cornerstone of each bridal week to learn how it truly should be done.
