Quintessential American designer, the very personification of Southern charm, Billy Reid, debuted a range of sun & optical eyewear today. The collection of sunglasses will be available immediately at all 13 Billy Reid shops nationwide & online, with the full optical collection will debut in shops February 1st.
“I’ve worn glasses since I was twenty-years old & I’ve wanted to design my own for almost as long,” Billy says of the Eyewear Collection. “Glasses are part of my personal identity & that of so many of our customers, so it was a natural extension for us to launch our own eyewear collection.”
Japanese horn, leather-wrapped temples, metal inlays, custom titanium nose pads & temple tips with the Billy Reid heirloom ribbon stripe etched in them are just a few of the special details that make this collection distinctly his own. Reid designed each style to represents a different personality in the “Billy Reid orbit” as he calls it.
Key styles include The William, Billy’s personal frames; The Jeanne, Billy’s wife’s frames; The Mattie, after Billy’s oldest daughter, & The Cooper, a limited edition style that is the embodiment of refined masculinity.
Specifically, for the launch of this category & in conjunction with the debut of the Billy Reid Fall 2017 collection in shops, Billy commissioned noted photographer Christian MacDonald to shoot the collection in & around the brand’s home base on Bond Street with models Drake Brunette & Miles Garber, styled by Brian Molloy.
Each year for the past 9, Reid has hosted his “Billy Reid Shindig” celebration of fashion, music, art, food, & friends at the brand’s ancestral home in Florence, Alabama. During this year’s installment, a series of videos were shot showcasing the unique narratives & personalities of key Billy Reid eyewear frames as embodied by the wearers.
