The SwimWear Anywhere show was not what I had expected, based on the show I attended last year at the Raleigh Pool. It probably wasn’t what PR Deborah Hughes and her team expected either, thanks to a huge tropical rainstorm that actually flooded a section of the check in tent at the Raleigh. The show was scheduled to take place on the Gansevoort’s rooftop but was relocated to the adjacent ballroom, due to the sheeting rain. The bright side was that the show got a nice size crowd due to the delay and an extended cocktail hour.
That gave me some time to be able to spend some time with S.A.’s lovely Co-Founder and Creative Director, Rosemarie DiLorenzo and ask her a few questions about her company.
The Fashion List: There are so many brands under the Swim Anywhere Inc. umbrella. Which have been your best sellers for the younger and more mature markets?
Rosemarie DiLorenzo: For the younger market, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors and Juicy [Couture] are big players in the mix. Each of them targets a different girl. The show we’re about to see will debut the Coco Contours line, stylish shape wear for the beach, which is a great option for women who want the support of a well-built suit.
TFL: What suits are in your closet, and by the way, what are you wearing now? It’s beautiful!
R. DiLorenzo [laughs]: A little bit of everything! There’s some Michael Kors, Carmen Marc Valvo, and Donna Karan. I’m wearing a Bottega shift dress.
The show kicked-off as promised, with some Coco Contours shape wear which included a nice white pearl studded maillot that incorporated new technology to minimize unwanted bulges
Further in there was a sampling from the companies other Cruise 2012 collections: Michael Kors, DKNY, Juicy Couture, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Carmen Marc Valvo, Coco Reef and Coco Rave.
Best in show was an elegant shirred sandalwood maillot and matching belted jumpsuit that works for a casual day at work. The print that stood out came in the form of a brown dragnet print cover-up.
