It has been discussed that the apathy shown towards branding & forthcoming self advertisement has been a deciding factor in the “downtrend” of Duckie Brown‘s popularity. This very well may be true, but does it ultimately matter?
Is it more important that the designers Steven Cox & Daniel Silver remain authentic to themselves & their passion? We think so. We have follewed Duckie for some time now, & watching their growth has been nothing but awe inspiring & captivating. With every collection that dreamscape of design gets pushed even further. This season we dreamt that the models were walking through a Japanese garden overlooking a peaceful forest or mountainside.
As the models practically floated down the runway, in their silk charmeuse tops and (noted by the designers) 48″ draw stringed waistlines, we couldn’t help but feel the lightness of the collection. The warm hearted playful jest of fabrications, the blouson inspired tops & flow-y windbreakers. There was every kind of garment, as you could never imagine. Well thank God for Steven & Daniel for concocting these images now forever emblazoned in our minds. This dynamic duo asks the viewer to dream, & we never want to wake up.
In a documentary of the pair in the not so distant past, they mentioned the wiles of menswear in the perspective of womenswear silhouettes & fabrications, & how the overall feminine portrayal of garments is necessary in today’s world of dress. We’ve come to agree with the notion, as menswear can be inspired by womenswear & vice versa. Are these gentleman designing clothes, or giving visual lectures on societal standards & glass windowed constructs? One might say the former, but a nice mixture of the two is where we have landed. We welcome more of the imagination to flourish for next season & we await with baited breath.
