Imagine if Game of Thrones (GOT) were set in 2016, or if there was a perfect symbiosis of Athens Olympics 2000 BC & todays futuristic performance fabrics. Well that was Nicholas K, only with their ever present romanticism of turmoil & struggle. I know we’re already heavy with analogies here, but Mad Max has just come to mind. Having attended Nicholas K’s shows for years now, it would be naive to ignore the subtle progression of the dystopic future they have been continually portraying. Maybe it’s just me, but the desert color ombre denim & silk looks scream desolate future. The forever hooded garments & protective accessories (see the pen purses with digital watches that I’m sure do everything), the rope necklaces, capes & coveralls, UV ray blocking shades & brass bracelets & arm bands, I could go on. But I think you get the picture.
I can’t help but feel they are getting ready for something big, something we need protection from, maybe it’s ourselves. But whatever it is I want to be ready, & to be wearing Nicholas K. It was all very beautiful, in a ready for battle of the best looking survivor’s kind of way. The leather jumpsuits & parachute like oversized anoraks stood out to us the most. There is just something about volume that peaks our interest & this brother sister duo isn’t afraid of it. Their use of denim. silk, suede, cotton, leather, jersey, & nylon showed their vast knowledge of textile pairing & manipulation. Not to mention, I already did, the pen ornamentation… It’s safe to say we are infatuated with this season, & we can’t wait for what’s next….mainly because we want to be properly outfitted for watching GOT.
