Dennis Basso touchingly opened his show by dedicating it to & honoring his dear friend Joan Rivers with a moment of silence, which almost brought a tear to my eye, as I’m sure it did to many others in the crowd.
His S/S 2015 collection, inspired by the young & hip that frequented the Mediterranean luxury resorts in the 60’s, had a quiet elegance & somber, yet fresh feeling. Soft colors of Ivory, Dusty Taupe, & Blush, in glittery Brocades, printed Chiffons, & intricate embroideries, were briefly interrupted by several Pale Grey ensembles accented with an almost electric Lemon Yellow.
Time & again, Mr Basso’s embellished pieces are always impressive, but his use of embroidered cloque this season was absolutely jaw dropping, especially on the Furs, which stood apart on their own as individual masterpieces.
