Lie Sangbong debuted his SS/14 collection at the Salon in Lincoln Center. Walking in, I noticed a crowd surrounding the enchanting, unique runway installation. Appropriately named “Dream Road”, ornate glass tiles collaged with photo-prints from Lie Sangbong’s archives. These tiles were strategically placed together to create a mystical and transcendent path. Korean sculptor Jang Seung Hyo collaborated with the designer to create this runway masterpiece unlike any experienced before & certainly not repeated again. The effect was one of the models walking on fanciful frescoed roofs of some European baroque palace.
The news didn’t end with the runway itself, however, as the clothess were in ethereal floral prints, often incorporating delicate butterflies, all in vibrant colors. The able hands of Lie Sang Bong transformed his trademark precise craftsmanship into a statement of feminine grace.
Scenes of dreamy butterflies & clouds transported the audience to a secret & magical garden in some other land that was neither of this earth nor a dream. In a word: Fantastical.
