Vivienne Tam’s sportswear this season was a hats nod to her Chinese roots with every stitch. The motifs ran the gamut from florals & foliage to varying types of architecture. The direct influence of Beijing’s forbidden city was evident throughout, but was most literal & covetable in a pair of pants that were printed with a tableau of the ancient landmark across the entire front.
Laser cut neoprene, mesh piecing, & soft lines, represented but a few of the elements that made up her beautiful array of garments, each more tricky & novel than the next, but never once seemed gimmicky or trite. The ample use of rich embroidery throughout the collection was not only a enjoyable homage to her inspiration, but also harkened back to her early days of her collection in a delightfully nostalgic way.
