NYFW isn’t truly open until the Nicholas K collection walks the runway. Lacking of late, has been the wonderful mix of women’s & men’s collection since the design duo chose to show its men’s collection during the men’s week, which is sad, as this collection really needs to be seen as a whole. A whole range of options where the Nicholas K women actually date the Nicholas K men… where beautiful young people float effortlessly down the runway of life on a personal safari, or preparing to do battle on the sun washed streets that lay ahead.
Regardless, brother & sister design duo Nicholas & Christopher Kunz, sent out a strong collection of women’s layered & draped ensembles that are as figure forgiving as they are pleasing to the eye. The palette was tightly edited into the Khaki, Natural, & Olive range, with a small dash of monochrome Black in the middle (it is NYFW after all!) that made it clear the safari of the season was a traditional one where the wearer wants to bend in with the natural surroundings. However, some of the styling & drapes strongly suggested she stopped in the 1970′s San Tropez en route to her final destination. Overall, a trip we ought to all take, as the results were stupendous.
The only question, or shall I say questions, this observer was asking at the end of the show, besides the one mentioned above (When will they bring back the dual gender shows?), was why this collection isn’t sitting in every retailer in the country? It deserves to be.
