Chinese brand SEVENCRASH returned to Spring Studios once again for the showing of their Fall 2020 collection, showing an ode to fashions of 2065. In the eyes of the creative team at SEVENCRASH, the future is a cold one. Apparently, we’ll find the cure to Global Warming by 2065, so don’t throw away those Canada Goose jackets just yet!
Not only is the future a colder one, the SEVENCRASH creative teams sees it as a far more sustainable one. One this, we can agree… Brand CEO Jason Yao states it as such, “As a disruptive brand, we believe in progress & staying ahead of the curve, in the current climate, sustainability needs to be & will be every brand’s number one priority. Every season we have been devoting more and more of our resources to researching & developing sustainable textiles & increasing the role they play in our design process. This is our mandate & an integral part of our corporate culture.” Admirable from a country that takes a lot of flack for their seeming snub of so many environmental issues in the media.
The Fall 2020 collection, entitled “Evolution”, was the latest in the series of showings with scientific names/themes. Recent collections have been shown under similar monikers - the GLIESE 581D series, the QUANTUS series, and most recently the Spring/Summer 2020 series, THE LAB. In the collection shown for Fall 2020, the emphasis is on a collection that seeks to inspire meditations on the role & impact of technology in the future.
All of this talk of “Series” & the future is all very contrived & quite honestly a distraction. What should be spoken about is the quality of the collection being shown, which, quite frankly, was quite good, innovative in design & intriguing to the eye. Aside from some very strange shorts shown towards the end, worn under heavy puffer jackets, the collection had few rough spots. The looks were wonderfully merchandised & the staging was grand in scale & proportion.
Some of the pattern combinations & the color stories felt truly inspired & stood out as some to the best of the week.
SEVENCRASH is a collection that deserves a second, or third look & should they play their cards right, just might find a significant following on these shores. If this is their intention, then this collection has set a great launching pad for a bright future… regardless of the temperature.
