Zang Toi took us to the ballet, or perhaps more accurately, brought the ballet to us for Spring 2014… literally, when he opened his show with a performance by a master ballet soloist who danced his way down the runway & off as the first model walked. What did she wear? A ballet pink dress of course!
The ballet references didn’t end there in this delightfully beautiful collection that was every bit as beautiful as the ballet is graceful. In a tightly edited assortment of Black tailored evening pieces in rich fabrications & dramatic cuts that demonstrated the design might behind the sketch pencil of this masterful createur. His only colors were a Pale “Ballet” Pink & an Icy Blue, which served the perfect complement to soften the heaviness (in hue only) of the black that formed the balance of his collection.
Zang’s fans, as usual, were in the audience en masse & literally shrieked to a standing ovation as Zang the person emerged for his final triumphant walk. While the showmanship of his recent past was somewhat more subdued (who can forget the raucous show a few seasons back with a rocked of version of Big & Rich’s “Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy” blasting overhead), the fashion quotient was at full volume as this collection was a stunner.
