The clothes walking the runway at the Yandy.com show on Friday night truly were scary… or, more accurately, scary, cuddly, cute, conversational, & at times even historical. The one uniting descriptive, however, was “FUN”! Yandy.com, the internet’s leading resource for Halloween costumes as well as “everyday sexy” lingerie & swimwear, staged what to our knowledge is the world’s first Halloween fashion show at Pier 59, here in New York during NYFW.
The show opened with a model taking a selfie dressed as the Snapchat icon & was quickly followed up by look #2, which in this case was literally a #2 disguised as the “poop emoji”. The fun didn’t let up from there. There were mermaids, both evil & happy, witches, circus animals, “almost” beauty queens (Miss Columbia made an appearance), soldiers, hippies, angels, slices of pizza, peacocks, social media stars, even a sexy rendition of Alexander Hamilton himself strutted her stuff.
The true story was saved for the finale, however, when a very leggy “Capitol Hill” walked out followed by “Donna P. Rumpshaker”. The two candidates, in this case for the office of “best in show”, then lead the grand finale, each vying for the affections of the cameras as they cut in front of each other, campaigning for the affections of the audience. There was no clear victor in this battle on the runway, a dual which would have made both Tyra & RuPaul stand & cheer. The real winners of the evening were in the audience, as everyone left with spirits high, forgetting about the “serious” fashion (as if) that was walking all the other catwalks of the week. More than one around me was heard exclaiming, “I can’t wait for Halloween! I think I’m going to be __________!”
