It was a wonderful vision to see the first pieces walk the runway at the Maggie Sottero show for Fall 2015 as the overly tortured, forced edge that had plagued the styling of the collection in recent seasons was gone & in its place, an edgy, pretty prevailed. Thank God!
The pretty didn’t end in the styling either, as the gowns themselves, for both collections shown – the bread & butter collection of Maggie Sottero & the more upscale Sottero & Midgley collection – were full of the adjective from strap to hem! A silver accent theme prevailed throughout with the detail reaching numerous crescendos throughout the collections, most notable in the “Magnolia” gown under the label Maggie Sottero which was a cream tulle dress covered in medallions of lace that seemed to have been over printed in a silver cellophane finish, & the opening look of the Sottero & Midgley collection, the “Abrianna” which was covered in silver mirrored sequins & crystals in a manner that added just the right amount of glitz & glamour, without going over the top as far too many bridal designers tend to do with glitz.
The color range was decidedly narrow with every shade of cream imaginable – parchment, off-white, antique white, etc. – with the only punch of color, if you can call it a punch, coming in the closing moments with a Peachy Blush gown that once again, was just the right amount of color to add interest… the restraint shown in this collection was masterful. Whatever is going on in the design room at the House of Sottero needs to continue. The collections have never looked better!
