Design duo Timo Weiland & Alan Eckstein showed the latest installment of their preppy-geeky-hipster-chic-mod-retro collection under the label Timo Weiland to an ecstatic crowd that packed the tents in an uncharacteristic late night showing. The quality & number of the crowd is a true testament to the level of devotion with fashion’s inner circle.
As the models began walking, to the raucous retro rock sound track of Echo & the Bunnymen’s “Doin’ It Clean”, it was immediately clear that the 80’s would serve as inspiration for this collection & the era’s retro obsessed fashions would play the most major role. The fashions looked less like a designed collection & more akin to an assortment of finds culled from a vintage shop near you, but the fit & cleanliness of the cut, left no doubt that what was unfolding was a well done homage to vintage rather than an actual collection of the genre.
Brown, Black, Orange, Indigo, Khaki, Navy, Stone, Persimmon, Aqua, White, Grass Green & even a dash of Olive all played equal roles in this tableau with an occasional punch of intense color being employed in the cool necklaces that included a large, corsage like flower in acid bright Green, Red or Black. The overall result was one of random, yet well orchestrated, fashion fun. By the response from the audience at the final bow, which included half standing ovation & half shreaks of support, they agreed. This is a label on the move.
