New York based menswear brand, Hiromi Asai, has worked tirelessly to give the ancient, traditional art of the Japanese Kimono a place on the racks of modern fashion. Who knew that an art form normally regarded as one reserved for women, would end up finding a home so naturally in the world of men’s fashion?
The house, which sources its splendid range of textiles from the most revered houses in the Kimono trade, has shown not only in New York, but has made significant impact in the aisles of Florence, Italy’s Pitti Uomo, & literally every other major trade show in the fashion marketplace. The effort is showing some serious results in the media & retail landscape alike, with the most recent success being a place in New York’s “Flying Solo” boutique.
Flying Solo NYC, located in the SoHo shopping district of lower Manhattan, prides itself on introducing a serious fashion crowd to some serious new & emerging brands. The boutique also produces fashion show in both NYFW & Paris Fashion Week aimed at giving their roster of notable labels of tomorrow some much needed & deserved exposure. It was following a successful appearance by Hiromi Asai in the Fall/Winter 2019 collection show during NYFW in February, that the brand found a permanent home at the boutique. The response of the audience proved too much for the boutique’s buyers to ignore & thus the partnership was born.
We say partnership because the retail store is only one part of the two companies’ relationship. The press & styling community will get the opportunity to borrow, photograph, & work the the sample collection from the Flying Solo NYC showroom. The designers have already begun preparing their next collection, which they are planning to debut during the September NYFW Spring Collections show.
The Hiromi Asai collection is making its debut in the Flying Solo NYC retail store in April of 2019.
