True Resort: HELLESSY Resort 2023

Sylvie Millstein returned to live events for her Resort 2023 collection of her label, HELLESSY. Following the live event, the lookbook images were shot peeling back the polished veneer of a typical fashion photoshoot to show the behind the scenes of just what happens at a shoot. The event, supported by the hip & cool vibe of the shoot created an overall seasonal image of a fresh & stylish collection making strong use of color as spice… aka: HELLESSY for Resort 2023.

The collection was said to be “symbolic of the glamorous yet cool NYC woman aesthetics” & “refreshing for the eyes.” We agree! Millstein herself defined the collection’s color palette as “tropical cocktail colors” that included Lime Green, Fire Orange, & Electric Iris, all of which were strong complements to the base color of the season White. The effect was one of futuristic, almost techie in vibe, but still wholly approachable & not intimidating in the least. Millstein was obviously feeling a bit “other-worldly” for the season, perhaps a statement of some sort about escaping the reality of the last few years, as she designed the collection. As with any well merchandised collection, there was a balance in the color options that included lighter shades as well like Blush, Papaya, Lilac, Pink, & Ecru.

A true return to the concept of Resort, with a touch of tropical spirit describes the new HELLESSY collection. I approached resortwear more literally and traditionally than ever before. With this in mind, Resort 2023 serves as the perfect occasion, for women who feel ready to jet-set to dreamy holiday destinations again.

Tailoring, has always been a strong part of the Hellessy brand DNA, & this season proves no different. However, there are som definite softer silhouettes that provide a wonderful balance between the more extremes of rigid, structure normally associated with the practice of tailoring & the flowy, ease of softly draped styles.

On the silhouette front, Millstein seems equally in love with the single piece dress as she is with the more sportswear driven looks of separates that allow the individual wearer to mix & match their own looks. There are some pieces that elevate the collection into the formal, such as the bustier dress & a bustled look that is striking. However, the collection seems particularly strong when the drapier looks are front & center, especially some of the knit pieces & covetable sweaters that are sure to be instant favorites once in the closets of the growing fans of the brand.
