The 70th Anniversary of the Viennese Opera Ball transformed Cipriani 42nd Street into a breathtaking celebration of white tie glamour, European sophistication, and timeless fashion. Inspired by the romance and fantasy of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s The Magic Flute, this year’s “Fairy Masquerade Ball” delivered an evening filled with couture gowns, polished tails, sparkling jewels, and old-world elegance rarely seen in modern New York nightlife.
The atmosphere evoked the splendor of imperial Vienna. Women embraced dramatic floor-length gowns, opera gloves, and statement jewels, while men adhered to the evening’s strict white tie dress code, reinforcing the Ball’s reputation as one of Manhattan’s most elegant and formal social events.
Hosted under the auspices of the U.S. Austrian Chamber of Commerce, the gala drew an international crowd of diplomats, fashion figures, philanthropists, and cultural tastemakers. President and Executive Director Silvia Frieser and Artistic Director Daniel Serafin welcomed guests alongside Austrian Ambassador to the United States Petra Schneebauer.
Leading the evening in style was Gala Chair Jean Shafiroff, who wore a glamorous couture design by Malan Breton. Her regal look perfectly complemented the grandeur of the masquerade-inspired evening and captured the refined sophistication associated with the legendary Viennese tradition.
The evening’s visual spectacle extended beyond fashion. The traditional presentation of the debutantes is one of the Ball’s most iconic moments. It brought classic Viennese elegance to life as young women dressed in white gowns and tiaras entered the ballroom for the ceremonial opening dance. Among this year’s debutantes were Miss New York Teen USA Ginger Ragaishis and Gabriela Ortega.
Guests were also treated to extraordinary performances by opera stars Angel Blue, Lawrence Brownlee, Hera Hyesang Park, Adam Smith, and Golda Zahra, while the Viennese Opera Ball Orchestra provided the soundtrack for an evening of waltzing and celebration.
Fashion designer Bibhu Mohapatra, philanthropist Maribel Lieberman, and numerous society figures added to the glamour of the night, which blended high fashion with Austrian cultural tradition in spectacular style.
From the masquerade-inspired details to the dazzling white tie fashion, the 70th Anniversary of the once again proved why it remains one of New York’s most fashionable and prestigious gala events.
