How to Dress Like a Tortured Poet

1.3K Views April 26, 2024

Today marks one week since the release of “The Tortured Poets Department”, Taylor Swift’s newest album, which has revealed itself to be one of, it not the most vulnerable showings of her artistry. Listening to the songs, dissecting the lyrics, & connecting clues to past songs & eras has felt more like reading her diary entries than ever before.

The Tortured Poets Department broke records before it was even released, and after a week of being out it has already woven itself deep into the fabric of the zeitgeist, inspiring many things in our daily lives; including how we dress.

It is important to note that it isn’t the clothes that make you a Tortured Poet. One can be a Tortured Poet in sweatpants, cowboy boots, an academia-inspired get-up complete with a pleated skirt and a blazer; or whatever tickles your fancy. As it goes with many Taylor Swift albums, interpretation is the operative word. As Taylor herself sings in the last line of the last song on TTPD, “…the story isn’t mine anymore”, it’s yours! Here are a few pieces to get you started.

  1. Guest in Residence Cardigan– Perfect for curling up in while waiting at the window for Peter to return or for looking into people’s windows. $465.00, available in 6 colors @ Guest in Residence
  2. Nasty Gal Dress– The quintessential frock for running with your dress unbuttoned, screaming, “but daddy I love him!”. $56.00 @ Nasty Gal
  3. Tilly Sveaas Necklace– In the process of alchemy, base metals are often turned into gold. Honestly, who are we to fight the alchemy that made this gold necklace? Even Blondie herself approves. $380.00 – $455.00, available in 3 lengths @ Tilly Sveaas
  4. Jennifer Fisher Lightning Bolt Charm– What a charming charm – fit for all your fantasies of fleeing. $600.00, available in 4 metals @ Jennifer Fisher
