It was just three months ago that the “lightweight & minimalistic” Vibram FiveFingers shoes went viral. Catching the attention of mainstream fashion creators, such as @rebecaoksana, @gaux.hns, & @norayogurt.
Deemed as the “Fashion Girlies” on TikTok, women in fashion have added the FiveFinger Vibram shoe to their list of the next fashion trends. Barefoot shoes have been increasingly gaining traction over the years with the popularity of shoes like Tabis & now Vibram’s FiveFingers shoe.
Marketed as a “true ‘second skin’” by Vibram, the “barefoot” shoe has continuously made its loop around TikTok over the years. With its collaboration with Balenciaga, it introduced high-heel styles. Seemingly launching the product not only as athleticwear but as a luxury fashion shoe.
Noting the shoe’s history for eye-catching designs & foot health benefits, the “fashion girlies” of TikTok have brought fashion & functionality when purchasing shoes.
One TikTok user, @Taytrudeau, described, “Not only are they — [Vibrams] — functional and good for foot health, but they are also super cute.”
After wearing her Vibrams every day for two months, @Taytrudeau observed its ease of cleaning. “The little loops still have some staining on the inside, but there is no smell, and the outside [looks] brand new.”
Although, for TikTok user @sisterwithgreattaste cleaning the shoe was not as simple. “I love these toe shoes, but I washed them for the first time and they are falling apart.” She continued, “…they get dirty really fast.”
As the shoe gains popularity, questions about its everyday life appear. With more time, reviews of its stand against daily wear and tear will arise.
For those wondering how to style the shoe, it has been seen as a coordinating item to an outfit. This shoe has been a good neutral staple for some — matching one’s top, pants, belt, or bag. If you want to brighten your outfit, it has also been used as a pop of color.
